“It’s what I do that defines me”

In life there are many possibilities. People change in good or bad ways depending on their environment. Sometimes we need to make choices whenever we encounter problems in our everyday life. In my life I have encountered many problems.
When I was young, my parents would always fight and shout at each other. Whenever that happened, I always look at the stars and wished that my family would stop fighting. I felt sad because my wish was not granted. At that time all I wanted was for my family to be happy.
I feel that I have changed a lot because of what happened. Growing up without my parents at my side became a great challenge for me. I think I am more independent because of it. I have changed in the way I interact with my classmates and friends. I also became determined to excel in school and in sports. So back in high school, I practiced hard and became a varsity player in basketball and I started getting better grades.
My mother and father are now happy with their new family. It’s hard for me to be left alone, but I always pray and ask God what I am going to do. God has answered my prayers and he always guides me to the right path.
I know that for other people, my life is not happy because of what happened. But for me it’s life. I’m very happy having them as my parents because I know that they love me very much. I think my life is full of excitement and very thrilling. This year, I am planning to go my mother and her family in France. I got to know my stepfather and my stepsister a little better; and I got to spend some memorable times with my mother.
This chapter of my life, I’m trying hard to finish college and find a good job. I hope that it will happen for me. My life is going to be whatever I make of it. It’s what I do about the things and experiences that happen to me that will define me as a person.
